Executive Director
Dear Friends,
Thank you for stopping by to learn more about Lincoln Action Program. For the past 43 years, Lincoln Action Program has been working to make Lancaster and Saunders Counties – YOUR communities – safer and stronger. And despite the constant threat of budget cuts and an increased demand for services, we will continue to do this important work.
In fact, we’ve recently updated our mission statement to reinforce our commitment to fighting poverty and bring us closer to the original mission of community action – to be a positive force in the reduction of poverty at the local level. Our new mission statement reads: “Lincoln Action Program’s belief in human dignity inspires us to work with families and other partners to fight poverty and build a stronger community.”
We know that poverty does not just affect those that are living in it; it affects the entire community. The work that we do, therefore, does not only benefit people living below the federal poverty level but also the businesses where those families shop, the neighborhoods in which they live, and in turn our community overall.
How do we do this? By providing education and job-skills training that help individuals to increase their employment income. By creating jobs in the community and helping people purchase their own homes and small businesses. By planning and building safe and affordable housing to improve the living conditions for our community’s families. By working with parents of young children to provide educational opportunities, health and nutrition screenings, and to connect families with community resources. By working with residents and community leaders to revitalize the homes and public spaces of our city’s oldest neighborhoods.
In short, we help individuals and families participate more fully as consumers, producers, workers, and citizens – all of which are important in their personal family security and the larger economic well-being of our community.
Please take a few minutes to look through our website and learn more about the work that we do in the community. If you have questions or would like more information on Lincoln Action Program, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Sue Hinrichs
