Program Description
Career Advancement Training (CAT) is soft-skills focused program designed to provide individuals with training in the skills needed to find, apply for, secure, and retain employment including professionalism, life skills, and interpersonal skills. The classes are designed to give participants many opportunities to practice these skills in both the safe environment of the classroom and real life situations in the community. Participants attend three, three-hour classes per week for six weeks. We address issues that often affect attendance such as child care, transportation, time management, stress management, budgeting, and accountability. Then we focus on issues that pertain to on the job success such as communicating with co-workers and supervisors, receiving and giving criticism, conflict resolution, attitude, anger management, teamwork, diversity, and customer service. Finally we teach resume writing, interview and self-presentation skills, cover and thank you letters, and job search. We support students even after classes have finished assisting them with job search and staying in contact with them and their new employers even after they are hired.
