Program Description

Lincoln Action Program's Computer Learning Lab (CLL) is designed to help people develop the computer skills they need to find jobs and achieve promotion. Classes are offered in the mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday, so that clients can find a class that will fit into their schedules.

The CLL also serves as a resource for participants in the programs within the Career Development Department, including Career Advancement Training (CAT), YouthBuild, MicroEnterprise, Center for Refugees and Immigrants, and LanguageLinc. Program participants use the CLL to prepare effective resumes and cover letters to aid in job search activities.

Keyboarding

Teaches the basics of typing on a computer

Microsoft WindowsAn introduction to Windows and the computer
Microsoft Word 2003 Level 1Teaches the basics of creating, formatting, and editing a document
Microsoft Word 2003 Level 2Teaches how to set tabs, insert tables, headers and footer, and breaks
Microsoft Excel 2003 Level 1An introduction to Microsoft Excel, working with workbooks and worksheets
Microsoft Excel 2003 Level 2Covers advanced formulas, formatting cells and worksheets, inserting and formatting charts
Microsoft Access 2003 Level 1Students learn how to make and edit tables, make forms, and set relationships within two tables, and make and format reports
Microsoft Access 2003 Level 2Covers advanced topics relating to Microsoft Access
Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Level 1Teaches how to create and edit a computerized slide show presentation. Includes creating slides, formatting slides, and presenting a manual slide show
Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Level 2Teaches advanced features of PowerPoint

The CLL is also in the process of developing classes in Microsoft Outlook, the most used e-mail and calendar program in the workplace.

Earn a Free Refurbished Computer

The CLL also offers an added benefit for those who want to learn computer skills useful on the job and in the job search. A participant who completes 30 credit hours of computer classes in the CLL, and meets income guidelines (125% of poverty level) earns a free refurbished computer. These are computers donated to the CLL and refurbished by our staff. All computers have, at minimum:

  • Pentium 200 MHz processor
  • Windows 2000
  • Word processing and spreadsheet software (OpenOffice)
  • Monitor
  • CD-Rom drive
  • 56k modem
  • Sound card
  • Mouse, keyboard, and all cords
