Program Description
LanguageLinc is a for-fee interpretation service that seeks to facilitate communication between people of different countries and the community by breaking down linguistic and cultural barriers. LanguageLinc offers various languages that reflect the ethnic diversity of our community. LanguageLinc Interpretations Services offers professional on-site and telephonic interpretation.
Interpreters receive specialized training through Southeast Community College. 25-40 hour practice-oriented courses training components include courses focused on ethics and responsibilities of interpreting in the medical field, behavioral health, and law enforcement. Interpreters undergo extensive training and independent assessment in the following areas:
- Language fluency in English and test language
- Interpreting skills
- Interpreting protocols
- Industry terminology and professionalism required for specific settings.
LanguageLinc promotes quality service delivery, eased access to services, and protects a company in respect to compliance and liability issues. LanguageLinc trains participants to provide responsible, high-quality interpretation and translation services in the Lincoln community with an emphasis on the medical field.
(Eligible participants receive free interpreter training in three core courses, which will enable them to begin working as sub-contractors with our interpreter/translator pool. Trainess must have completed ESL level 8 or a placement test through SCC, must have a high school diploma or its equivalency in their native language, and must be low or moderate income).
